Step One - Digipak

This is the first step in me making my digipak.

I have created the spine, and halfway through the lyrics page, also I have placed a picture that you will see when you take the disc out and I have drafted where my disc will sit in my digipak.

Digipak Template

To help me create my digipak I have downloaded a template from www.discwizards.com. This is so I have the idea for measurements, and format.

Fonts

The fonts that I am using throughout my production is ...
  • Sakkal Majalla
  • Vladimir Script
I feel that these are the best as one is destinctive enough to be used within my logo and the other one is clear enough to be used when typing small things.

Final Dance Routine Sequence

After reviewing my draft I have decided that it didn't flow very well as there where to many cuts for the style of the music. I want the dance sequence to flow well so it shows the talent and purity of the dancer.

First Draft

This is the first draft of the dance routine section of my music video, however I have not fitted the music to the clip yet.

It also has tabs in the top corner so the audience are able to navigate their way around the website. There is also a news feed what the fans are able to go through and read. Also near the bottom there is a list of her songs so the fans are able to click on the link and find out more. Also the background is a picture that it related and in the style of her latest album.

This is the website for Jessie J. The website once again links closely to the website as the main picture that the audience see is the image seen on her album cover. Also the font used one the website is the same on the album cover. There is also a media player at the top of the page. There are tabs to other areas of the website, also there are links to facebook and for fans to sign in to a e-mailing list. There is also a latest news section that the fans can read with video links posted in them.

Analysis of third digipak

The third digipak I am going to analyse is 'The Kooks - Inside in Inside Out'. The album was released 23rd January 2006 on Virgin Records.

Both the front cover and back cover are black and white photos, this makes the red and black text stand out and grab the audiences title directly to the name of the album. It also shows close up photos of the band, the photos are very natural as the band have not posed for them they just appear to be chilling and playing music, this gives the audience the feeling that they are peering into private lives and getting an idea of what it's like to be part of the band.

The back of the album is a montage of many pictures tinted with different colours showing the band playing live on stage, this may be showing the audiences what it's like to be at thier gigs if the fan is not able to attend themself.

The CD uses the hole within the CD to look like the first 'o' in the title of the band, the CD is opposite to the cover of the album as that is red with black and white writing. Even though they have only used three basic colours for the  photos and text this album cover is very effective and stands out, it's simplicity makes it more eye catching. This is the effect I am trying to gain from my CD cover.

Analysis of second digipak

The second digipak I am going to analyse is 'Ke$ha - Animal & Canibal' This is a mix of her first albums, that were both released in 2010.

The title of the albums have a big influence on how the album looks, on both of them she looks hard faced and doesn't smile she looks fierce like an animal. This could be showing the audience the hard serious side of her personality as in her music videos she is portrayed as a fun loving character.
The cover of the album shows half of each of her album covers that appeared to have been ripped maybe slashed by an animals claw and it looks like it has been stitched together frantically, this helps the audience get an idea of what style of music the artist is and shows that both of her albums have consecutive themes.
Also the saturation of the pictures and the grainy effect they have gives the audience a sense of wild, just like animals. She also doesn't care how she looks as she hasn't really posed for the pictures unlike the pictures we have seen on the Katy Perry digipak, the Ke$ha pictures are a total contrast.
The main picture within the digipak is  the artist stood in front of an American flag, this is showing the artists roots, as she was born in America.
The rest of the digipak contains lyrics and more pictures that she has posed for, the back of the digipak mimics the front of the digipak with once again the picture been torn in half giving the audience an animal feeling there is also claw marks at the bottom of the page. The barcode is also unconventionally in the top left hand corner when it is usually seen in the bottom corner.

Analysis of first digipak

The first digipak I am going to analyse is 'Katy Perry - Teenage Dream'. The album was released on 24th August 2010 on Capitol Records.

Firstly we have the album cover that shows Katy Perry laid down within what appears to be a pink cloud that is floating in the sky, however as we look at other areas and we recognise the reoccurring theme throughout her album (sweets/candy canes) we then link the cloud to candy floss and that's why it appears pink. This could be linked to her personality that she is sweet and kind.

We see the theme of candy canes throughout the whole of the digipak and on limited digipaks they are marked with a sticker meaning that the album is scented with candy floss.

The disc itself is marked with the swirls and colours that are conventionally found on a candy cane once again linking to the sweets theme, therefore even though the disc has no writing on somebody who has never seen the CD before will be able to make an educated guess at where it belongs, As the theme throughout is so strong.
The other two panels we can see are very simple and bold however they are effective, they do not use as much special effects as the albums cover however her bright outfit stands out against the black background, her crown are made from sweets linking in once again to the theme. Also the photo of her full body shows the audience her outfit, which is not conventional of what people would wear on the street. Showing that she is random and different. She places the photo's of herself in the digipak so her fans can see her, just in case they do not get to see her in concert and before they also have and idea of her music videos before they have even seen them. It also seems as if when her fans open it and see this pictures they share a personal moment with her as the pictures are so plain and it's just showing her. These pictures do not feature in the original basic album and are just for people who have purchased the digipak.
