Analysis of first digipak

The first digipak I am going to analyse is 'Katy Perry - Teenage Dream'. The album was released on 24th August 2010 on Capitol Records.

Firstly we have the album cover that shows Katy Perry laid down within what appears to be a pink cloud that is floating in the sky, however as we look at other areas and we recognise the reoccurring theme throughout her album (sweets/candy canes) we then link the cloud to candy floss and that's why it appears pink. This could be linked to her personality that she is sweet and kind.

We see the theme of candy canes throughout the whole of the digipak and on limited digipaks they are marked with a sticker meaning that the album is scented with candy floss.

The disc itself is marked with the swirls and colours that are conventionally found on a candy cane once again linking to the sweets theme, therefore even though the disc has no writing on somebody who has never seen the CD before will be able to make an educated guess at where it belongs, As the theme throughout is so strong.
The other two panels we can see are very simple and bold however they are effective, they do not use as much special effects as the albums cover however her bright outfit stands out against the black background, her crown are made from sweets linking in once again to the theme. Also the photo of her full body shows the audience her outfit, which is not conventional of what people would wear on the street. Showing that she is random and different. She places the photo's of herself in the digipak so her fans can see her, just in case they do not get to see her in concert and before they also have and idea of her music videos before they have even seen them. It also seems as if when her fans open it and see this pictures they share a personal moment with her as the pictures are so plain and it's just showing her. These pictures do not feature in the original basic album and are just for people who have purchased the digipak.
